During the off-season, together with local artisans, we have taken great care during the renovation works to preserve the authentic and rustic charm of the house, while adding modern convenience features for your holiday comfort.
We always welcome feedback and suggestions, especially if you are passionate about home renovation and decoration!

THE LIVING ROOM

The kitchen
Initially, our concept was to create an accommodation around a custom-designed kitchen and to offer private cooking courses. Fanette, a long-time local who perfected her English while hanging out with the Monty Python crew in London (seriously!), was our first choice for our Porte 22 chef. With her trademark red chapeau and artistic elegance, Fanette would tour our guests around the local markets in search of fresh produce for the evening’s tailor made cooking session. She would not let you get away with “less salt” or “no garlic”. This was authentic French cuisine with no shortcuts to happiness!
Following Fanette’s sudden passing in 2015, we have not sought to replace her with a similar service; she was one of a kind. The Porte 22 kitchen carries Fanette’s spirit and her indelible traces of humour and culinary art.
The main bedroom
Formerly the bedroom of the young son of the previous owners, a local French family. Prior to him, it was the bedroom of one of two Danish couples who shared this house as their secondary home.
Now it serves as Porte 22’s main bedroom with one large double bed, an old fireplace hearth, a storage trunk from the antique market, and a spacious wardrobe. With direct access leading to the backstairs up to the roof terrace and with a view directly below to the inner courtyard, this room is the quiet space secluded from all the buzz of everyday life.
The second bedroom
The second bedroom, with its two single beds and telework desk with complimentary computer monitor (HDMI cable provided), is located in between the kitchen and the main bedroom. It is, therefore, a “pass-through” room between these two areas. so do think carefully as to how you configure your sleeping arrangements. This room also contains a (custom-made) wardrobe and from the large sliding door it overlooks the inner courtyard (featuring floor tiles that I learned how to lay in 2024!).
The bathroom
The Bathroom area is located in the space between the two bedrooms: just off the second bedroom is the shower and large vanity sink. The separate WC is located a few steps away in the corridor en route to the main bedroom.
The terrace
When I first saw the roof terrace, even in its former state, I knew this was the future home I’d been dreaming about! The view over the neighbouring red tile rooftops is a unique experience, especially for those coming from outside Europe.
This much-loved secluded space for visitors to Porte 22 features two large sun beds with loads of cushions to ensure the laziest of lazy days in comfort. An equipped kitchenette off the terrace includes a sink, bar fridge, microwave, toaster oven, laundry machine, cutlery, plates, blankets and more. Soak up the sunny silence…
